Douglas F. Messina, MD
Dr. Messina is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee as well as total joint replacements of the knee and hip. He is fellowship-trained in sports medicine and reconstructive surgery. An active athlete himself, Dr. Messina is especially interested in sports medicine. A significant portion of sports medicine lies outside the realm of surgery and other procedures, and Dr. Messina is dedicated to providing the full spectrum of care that each individual patient requires. He has extensive experience treating athletes at the collegiate and professional levels, and he serves as team physician for three high schools in southeastern North Carolina. Dr. Messina also treats recreational athletes of all ages and levels.
Dr. Messina competes in triathlons and is an avid tennis player and golfer. He has three children.
